Join MNBC's Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language (CHL) for the Métis Artist Talks: Métis Quillwork Brooch Workshop with Métis artist Mara Kersey. In this workshop, you will delve into Mara's experience as a Métis artist in British Columbia and explore the intricate art of quillwork. We look forward to creating Métis Quillwork Brooches with you!

This workshop is limited to 40 people, and a waitlist will be created for additional registrants. Kits will be mailed out to participants. We will prioritize new participants when completing registrations. Therefore, if you recently registered for another Métis Artist Talks workshop (i.e. quillwork), your spot may be given to a new participant.

Day 1 features a workshop with Lorelei Lyons. Participants will learn teachings on Medicine Pouches and plant medicines, such as sweetgrass and sage. Each participant will receive a medicine pouch kit. 

Day 2: November 25, 2023; 9 am - 1 pm

Day 2 features an Elder and Knowledge carrier panel emceed by Jordan Waunch, along with a Wolf Willow Berry Rosary Making workshop by Métis Herbalist Kodiak Herbal.

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) collaborates with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities to produce a new broadcast special, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, in partnership with APTN, CBC/Radio-Canada, Insight Productions and Canadian Heritage. In recognition of the new federal statutory holiday, also known as Orange Shirt Day, this unique one-hour, commercial-free primetime special honours the stories and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples affected by the tragedies of the residential school system in Canada, with musical tributes and ceremonies in Indigenous communities across the land. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will broadcast and stream live Thursday, September 30 at 8 p.m. ET on APTN, CBC, CBC Gem, ICI TÉLÉ and ICI TOU.TV.

The Nursing Students’ Association and College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences will hold a virtual ceremony to mark Orange Shirt Day this year, in place of the annual walk from the Helen Glass Centre of Nursing to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.
